Discussion Subforum things

I think we should make a subforum (perhaps under discussions.) that is specifically for controversial issues likely to erupt into feels/flame wars.

I think it would be really cool to actually allow discussions and support for people to talk about things other forums tend to explode over, but we need to keep it under tight control and watch. I'd really prefer we don't end up banning discussions about things like religion when many trans people struggle with religion in the context of being trans, etc etc etc.

Yeah, I'll add a controversial topics sub forum once I have access to a computer.

The rules may be a little more leniant for that one in particular because touchy subjects DO being out the worst in people. I think we should send unofficial warnings a lot more, but unless it's a direct attack to a person it shouldn't merit an official strike. It needs to have its own separate rules, probably. In which case, what should they be? Mine are just suggestions.

Indeed.

Maybe the rules should be like
be as angry as you want to be
but no threats of violence
no purposely triggering someone
no telling anyone to hurt themselves
and no outright bigotry
(like...misguided bigotry can happen, society is terrible and resources are not everywhere, but just straight phobic jackassery, nah)
those should be like strikes, i think.

That sounds really good, actually. I don't think There should be separate controversial thing; if discussions aren't controversial then they're probably not worth having.
