Gender Markers Empty Gender Markers

Post by RCus Fri May 16, 2014 3:09 am

So I replaced the gender markers with some new, more flexible options that feature cute burger icons. :L

Gender Markers Female- F

Gender Markers Male- M

Gender Markers ImageNB

Gender Markers Neutral-Neutrois/Agender

Gender Markers Bigender-Bigender

As of right now the options are m, f, nb, bigender and neutrois/agender. I'd really like some feedback on this, including:

1. Are the burgers a good idea? Or are they potentially offensive?

2. Nonbinaries are all under the same icon. I'm not a huge fan of that, but I also don't want more than say, 7 total options. Any ideas of how I can separate it more? I was considering a default nb, and one for AFAB or DFAB nonbinaries.***edit to 2: N added for neutrois.

3. The patties of the burgers for the ftm/mtf are slightly different than nonspecified m/f. Should the difference be more obvious or not there at all?

4. What about some sort of intersex burger? What colors, if it should exist?

EDIT: Now genders are m, f, nb, and n. There's a separate optional field to say whether you're cis or trans.
Now I'm considering adding a questioning icon, probably orange.

Please answer. This is probably going to be an ongoing topic so I want to know what everyone has to say.

i like the burgers.
i'm not really a fan of having a separation of ftm and male, or the other way around, personally.
intersex... ehhh... most of them have genders that they can define as any of those things.

For the description of gender markers, I added that you can be as specific as you want. Like you can just choose male instead of ftm and that's totally cool; I just know some people are a little more out about it and wanted to give them the option. The M/F is more for unspecified than cis.

I'm vegan. This is literal transmisogyny. I am being oppressed by carnist-binarist Burger markering truscum.

Ok more seriously, what actually inspired the burger theme? It's a bit outlandish if you ask me.

Oh! A while ago I think Raeltran made the secret truscum tag tranburger. So I'm just running with it. Besides, I like themes!

Also, Henry, I think I'm going to be without intersex for now until we get an intersex member who wants one. I think that's gonna be the way to go for the nbs too.

I think I agree with Henry; I think that FTM and MTF would be better off being consolidated into just M and F.

I would suggest adding another, separate profile option which allows people to state whether they are trans, cis, or would rather not say.

And personally I'd go for grey instead of green for neutrois, but that's just me. (Would be just as unappetising though!)

I would say make the difference between FTM/MTF and F/M less distinguishable, but not remove the options.
Some people might want to publicly say theyre FTM/MTF, since this is a safe place after all.

Side note: I love the burger theme. And the colored burgers. Theyre reminiscent of pretty patties.

I'd suggested green because it's one of the flag colours. But yeah I'd prefer if we didn't have the XTY options. Just something like you suggested that allows us to select cis/trans or whatever.

What if the burgers were the exact same but the hover text was different?

There is still the implication that those who have chosen just M/F are cis and not trans.

All right. I like my ftm burger but I can see that it's unpopular so I'll change it up when I get my lappie again. As for the trans/cis marker, should it be text or some kind of image? What should the text say?

All right, only m, f, nb, and n exist now. And there's a trans/cis field.

I can't tell what each burger color stands for. I don't want to pick something and misgender myself haha. Like is the purple nb or what's the green? Ahh!

Edit: ooops, haha never mind. Protip- Hover text doesn't show up in google chrome for some reason.

Yeah, it's not perfect. The separation between nb and n is probably unnecessary but meh. I'm more annoyed that everyone who chose an ftm burger is neutrois. Not sure how to fix that.

Am I the only one who can't see the gender markers, only the "broken picture link" icon?

Haha that explains your female one. I'm seeing the icons just fine. What's weird is that for you, the images are broken, and for TheodoreChoosevelt she can't see the hover text. Hmm.

I'll change yours to male for you, I think I can do that. I'll have to open the forum in something other than chrome I guess. I operate mostly on my iPhone so my abilities are a little limited.

Ahh thanks I'll try a different browser. Maybe it's that? I can see everything else fine. Thanks for saying you'll fix it; I don't want to put you to any trouble

Sorry for filling this thread with my problems, but for anyone who's gone this far back, using a different browser allowed me to see the markers and change mine from F to M, I don't know why this was but if other people are having the same problem then I'd suggest that.

Are the images on the first post broken too? I put them all there. If not, then it must be an issue with Forumotion's custom fields.

And what browser was giving you issues?

No, it's all the images (which I could tell by using the other browser.) I'm using google chrome on a mac computer but it's long overdue for an update so I think it's something wrong with my computer rather than the forum. (I hope my gender marker is right now?)
